WebJan 6, 2012 · The taper is at the bridge end of the guitar and is part of a basic setup. The action at the nut can make or break a setup. A nut that is cut too high will make chords in the middle of the neck 5-9 fret feel stiff. A nut that is cut too low will require high action so the strings don't buzz off of the first fret. WebJun 16, 2024 · Tapered files are painful and time consuming to use. The taper is a cone, rather than a cylinder. That means that to rough in the slot, the openings at the the bridge side and the headstock side of the nut the slot must be filed from both directions.
