The only thing I could see different between the more exspensive purple gun and the cheaper on is the more expensive one uses a little bit fancier knobs on it and a different cup. The draw back on the purple guns is the cup size, they use a 20 oz cup. They use to make a purple gun with a 1.5 tip, now I only see the 1.4 tip.

Can't help on actual psi settings but the arrow is air flow DIRECTION which would be INTO the gun,The air adjust knob on the bottom is usually backed out,wide open unless your painting something small. The purple hvlp usually runs around 45 on the regulator guage with the trigger fully pulled back.
